Heute erhielt ich einen reizenden Brief von Prof. Fajans als Antwort auf meine Gratulation. Die Dich wegen des Affidavit betreffende Stelle lege ich Dir hier in Abschrift bei. – Mit Erich Marx war es wirklich ein Missverständnis meinerseits: Es handelt sich nicht um ein Stellungsangebot sondern um ein Affidavit, das er Dir, sogar ev. noch unter Rückstellung des Bruders seiner Mutter (also wohl Willy’s G. in Frankf.), ev. verschaffen zu können hofft. –

Die Angelegenheit in Capstad würde wohl erst dann spruchreif werden, wenn der dortige Burgermeister an Herrn Dir. Pu. berichtet hat. Dieser ist inzwischen nach Frankfurt a/M. gezogen u. hat mir versprochen, Nachricht zu geben, wenn er aus Capstad etwas über die Sache erfährt. Die Adr. Von Dir. Pu. Besitze ich noch nicht, wird aber vielleicht später durch Go.‘s hier erhältlich sein. – Die 2 Sachen des Herrn Csergei (Mailand) sende ich Dir hiermit zurück. Ganz nett, aber auch wohl nicht mehr als das. –

Ich danke Dir bestes für Deinen Brief vom 20. Juni: Auch Deinen Brief an Viktor zeigte mir dieser. Wir fanden ihn sehr nett. – Den Irrtum wegen Deiner Telephonnummer habe ich in meinem Notizbuch verbessert u. auch durch Postkarten an Prof. Oesper – Cincinnati u. Prof. Foulk – Columbus korrigiert. ist vielleicht schon mit Sohn unterwegs nach Europa u. auch den Besuch von Foulk kann man vielleicht im Juli – August erwarten. –

Sind die 50 R.M. Geburtstagsgeschenk für Dich sehr eilig? Einen Regenmantel musst Du natürlich ev. baldigst kaufen. Ich denke aber, dass Du doch noch eine erheblich Summe als Rest meiner Sendungen von zusammen 2800 R.M. (in diesem Jahre! bezw. angelegt?) haben musst! Wie hast du das Geld angewandt? Hoffentlich geht das Geld nicht durch Borgen u. Gefälligkeiten für Freunde etc. dahin, wo Du es nie wiederbekommst! Du brauchst es doch dringend zur ev. Vorbereitung Deiner Zukunft.

Zur Zeit habe ich natürlich sehr viele andere Ausgaben u. deshalb wundere Dich nicht, wenn ich Dir die 50 M. erst später sende. Kaufe Dir aber den Regenmantel bald. – Zur Hochzeit also hoffen wir Dich hier zu haben! Es freut mich, dass Du an Gewicht zunimmst, u. hoffentlich beseitigt die geplante Vitamin-Kur auch die anderen Beschwerden. Wer behandelt Dich dabei? – Lässt H.H.F. Deine Arbeit über Polymorphismus des CaC2 zu lange liegen? Warum eigentlich? Ich glaubte, sie wäre längst abgeschickt. Es wäre doch auch ein Schaden, wenn Ihr doch durch die Verschleppung die Priorität verlieren würdet. Verliere aber niemals die Nerven u. überhaupt: „Mensch ärgere Dich nicht!“ Das ist auch für die Verdauung u. ihre Organe nicht gut.- Versuche doch einmal ein Anderes, technisch brauchbares Gebiet anzuschneiden z.B. die Herstellung von höheren Fettsäure aus kettenförmige Polymerisaten des C2H2 (wegen techn. Dear Max-Albert,

Today, I received a charming letter from Professor Fajans in response to my congratulatory note. I am enclosing a copy of the passage concerning your affidavit. It was really a misunderstanding on my part with Erich Marx. It is not a question of a job offer but rather an affidavit, which he hopes to be able to provide for you with the help of his mother’s brother (i.e., likely Willy’s G. in Frankfurt).

The matter in Cape Town would probably only be ready for a decision when the mayor there let Mr. Putzel know. In the meantime, he has moved to Frankfurt am Main and promised to let me know if he hears anything about the matter in Cape Town. I don't have Director Putzel's address yet, but it may be available here later through the Go.'s. I am returning the 2 things belonging to Mr. Csergei (Milan). They’re nice enough, but probably no more than that.

Thank you very much for your letter from June 20th. Viktor also showed me your letter to him. We thought it was very nice. I revised the mistake in my notebook regarding your telephone number and sent postcards to Professor Oesper in Cincinnati and Professor Foulk in Columbus with your correct number.

Professor Oesper is likely on his way to Europe with his son. Professor Foulk may visit in July or August.

Are you in a hurry to have the 50 Reichsmarks as a birthday present? Of course, you may have to buy a raincoat as soon as possible. However, I think that you must still have a considerable sum left over from the 2,800 Reichsmarks that I sent you (this year, and which I invested!). How did you spend the money? Hopefully, you didn’t lend the money to friends. If so, you’ll never get it back! You need it urgently to prepare for your future.

I currently have many other expenses, so don't be surprised if I don't send you the 50 Marks until later. However, buy the raincoat soon. We hope you will be here for the wedding! I'm glad you're gaining weight. Hopefully, the planned vitamin regimen will also alleviate your other ailments. Who is treating you? Did H.H.F. hold on to your work on the polymorphism of CaC2 for too long? Why? I thought it would have been submitted a long time ago. However, never lose your nerve and in general: “Don't get annoyed!” This is also not good for the digestive process and the organs involved. Try your hand at another technically useful area, i.e., the production of high fatty acids from C2H2 chain-shaped polymers (due to technical fat synthesis).
