Notes taken by Georg Bredig (1868-1944) on a lecture course taught by Hermann (Herman) Mark (1895-1992) on atomic models and wave mechanics during the winter and summer semester of the 1927-1928 academic year at the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe. The course covered much of modern quantum mechanical theory, which was only recently discovered in 1925. Bredig presumably sat in on the course to learn about the new theory.

Notes begin by discussing Niels Bohr's model of the atom, including discussions of the Franck-Hertz experiment, the Stern-Gerlach experiment, Pauli exclusion principle, the hydrogen atom under Bohr's model, energy states of electrons excited by photons, etc. Notes then turn to the new quantum mechanics, credited in the notes to Werner Heisenberg and Erwin Schrödinger, including discussions of new mathematical formalisms such as Fourier sums and matrix multiplication, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, Bose-Einstein statistics, Schrödinger's wave mechanics, the wave-particle duality of light, Schrödinger's wave equation (including extensive examples of its application), linear oscillators, rotating models of the atom, the hydrogen atom under the new quantum mechanics, more on Pauli's exclusion principle, etc. Also includes philosophical discussions about the nature of the new quantum theory.
