Handwritten manuscript of the fourth chapter of Über Katalyse (1923), a collection of scientific essays by Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932) on chemical catalysis. The manuscript is heavily annotated in Georg Bredig's (1868-1944) hand. A clean copy of the manuscript was presumably made for the typist or typesetter. The annotations describe the historical importance of various works by Ostwald in the history of physical chemistry. Also contains notes to the typist or typesetter.

The page versos contain unrelated scientific notes from various dates, including notes about whether "ausserordentliche Studierenden," or students-at-large, should be allowed at institutions of higher learning in Baden. Georg Bredig believes the category is superfluous and unnecessary, and should not be created as truly qualified students will enter regular courses of study. Bredig also believes that it would be dangerous, as it could allow unworthy elements to enter the institution and harm its reputation. At the very least, Bredig hopes that the ministry will allow the university rector and senate to approve students at large before they are allowed to take classes.

Also included are handwritten notes for a presentation (or report) by Georg Bredig on a scientific article by Ernst Berl and Joh. [likely Johann] Bitter entitled Über die Bildung von Äthylchlorid aus Äthylen und Salzsäure, dated January 23, 1924. These notes appear to summarize the main points of the article, as Georg Bredig worked through it himself, while also including Bredig's critiques of the experimental results. Appears to be prepared for presentation in a seminar or informal working group on current results.
