Lieber Maxel!

Ich habe Dir schon sehr lange nicht geschrieben, aber von Vatter hattest Du immer Nachricht anschl. über uns. Ich bin soo sehr beschäftigt, meistens sogar abgehetzt, dass es zu Briefschreiben immer kaum noch reicht. Natürlich sind wir in Gedanken viel bei Dir u. hoffen, dass Du mit Deinem Ortswechsel zufrieden bist. Wie geht es Dir nun unter milder Verköstigung? Leider schreibst Du ja nie über diese Dinge.

Inzwischen hat sich wenig bei uns geändert. Die Kinder sollen zwar im Mai noch England kommen, sie sind als guaranteed children anerkannt u. werden mit einem Kindertransport reisen. Ob es aber bis Mai wirkl. klappt, wissen wir nicht, schliesslich warten wir schon Monate darauf. z.Z sind sie alle hier; außerdem seit 5 Wo. noch ein 8-jahr. Freund, dessen Eltern auch im Umbruch sind.

Annemarie Go., die Nichte von Stephans, ist vor ca 1 Wo. nach Holland mit dem Kindertransport gekommen. Was aus ihr wird, ist noch immer unklar: unser Gesuch für England soll vom Committee ans Home Office

(obere Halle) in Engl. geleitet worden sein u. wir warten natürlich sehr darauf, ob es genehmigt wird. Für Vater habe ich für Engl. auch das Nötige eingereicht. Wir beabsichtigen, wenn wir reisen können, ihn nach Engl. mitzunehmen; denn daß sein Gesucht genehmigt wird, hoffe ich doch sehr. Allein kann u. soll. will er nicht raus. Trotzdem ist es gut, dass auf alle Fälle Holland für ihn positiv geantwortet hat. Man kann nicht wissen, ob wir ihm sofort nach England mitmehmen dürfen, od. er ein paar Wo. in Holland unterbringen, wenn (?) wir überhaupt reisen können, bis wir wissen, wo wir in Engl. überhaupt wohnen werden. Es ist alles verflixt kompliziert. Es ist auch keine Kleinigkeit unser Riesenhaus aufzulösen – aber es ist verkauft u. im Herbst steht uns ev. noch ein Umzug bevor, ev. zu Vater (?) Vater selbst reagiert auch nicht immer darauf; oft will er nicht – und – immer sagt, daß er Dir nicht zur Last fallen will etc. Es ist für ihn nat. auch ein schwerer Entschluss so ins Blaue hinsauszugehen. Vorläufig ist ja auch noch alles nicht soweit. – Könntest Du Dich zuverlassig erkundigen, ob man von Kanada nach U.S.A hereinkommt. Es soll eine Moeglichkeit geben – wir prüfen sie dieser Tage, dass man ein Visum fuer 1 Jahr Aufent. halt in Kanada erhalten kann.

so müßte man diese Möglichkeit sehr ins Auge fassen; ev. nur für Vi. Va u. mich, die Kinder in Engl. lassen, bis man in U.S.A Fuss gefasst hat. Denn wie soll man 5 Jahren in Engl. sitzen ohne Verdienstmöglichkeit auch wenn unser Gesusch Dank des Vetters positiv beschieden würde. Vi. Ist kein Jungling mehr, und wäre dann 53 J.!! Es ist also alles zu prüfen, wie man einen Weg findet, so rasch wie mögl.- also bevor unsere hohe Nr. dran kommt, nach U.S.A hereinzukommen. –

Glaubst Du, dass es richtig ist, wenn Vater für seine oder wenn Du bei ihm bist – Deine Benutzung oder auch sonst: Schrank, Regale, Betten (od was sonst) mitbringt?

Dear Max,

I haven’t written to you in a long time, but you always receive news from Father about us. I am so busy, and sometimes so exhausted, that I don’t have enough time to write letters. Of course, we are thinking about you and hope that you are happy with your new home. How are you doing on a mild diet? Unfortunately, you don’t write about such things.

Nothing has changed with us in the meantime. The children shall travel to England in May with the Kindertransport. They are recognized as guaranteed children. We still don’t know if it will actually work out in May. We have already been waiting for months. Everyone is currently still here, including an 8-year-old friend for the past 5 weeks, whose parents are on the move.

Annemarie Go, the Stephans’ niece, went to Holland with the Kindertransport approximately one week ago. It is unclear what will happen to her. Our application for England should be forwarded

to the Home Office (upper hall) by the committee. Of course, we are waiting to see if it will be approved. For Father, I submitted the necessary paperwork for England. When we can travel, we intend to take him with us to England. I hope his application will be approved. In any case, it is beneficial that his application for Holland was approved. I don’t know if we can immediately bring him with us to England or find accommodations for him in Holland for a few weeks. I also don’t know if we can travel at all until we know where we will live in England. Everything is so darn complicated. It’s also no small feat to clean out our large house. However, it is sold, and we will move in the fall, most likely to Father’s. Father doesn’t always give his opinion, and usually doesn’t want to. He always says that he doesn’t want to be a burden on you. It’s also difficult decision for him to go out into the unknown. For the time being, everything is still not ready. Could you inquire if it is possible to enter the U.S.A from Canada? This should be possible. We have recently been checking if it possible to obtain a one-year visa residence visa for Canada.

If we could enter the U.S.A from Canada, we would have to really consider this possibility, but only for Viktor, Father, and myself. We would leave the children in England until we have settled in the U.S.A. How could we sit in England for five years without the possibility of earning a living, even if our application was approved thanks to Viktor’s cousin? Viktor is no longer a youngster and would be 53 years old by then!! It is thus necessary to find a way as quickly as possible to come to the U.S.A, especially before our number is up.

Do you think is it alright if father brings his amoire, bookshelves, beds (or anything else) with him for his, or when he visits you, your use?
