Lieber Max!
Heute Nachm. hat der Packer Herr Bauer von Fa. Steffelin im Auftrage der Amer. Expr. Co. Deine Sachen hier in 5 Collis verpackt. Die Bücher befinden sich in 2 grossen Kisten u. in einer etwas kleineren, die noch etwas Wäsche obenauf enthält. Ausserdem enthält noch 1 Kiste Porzellan u. Silber (nicht den Kasten) u. 1 Kofferkiste enthält Betten. Die 5 Collis werden morgen Mittwoch d. 22 Sept morgens von Steffelin abgeholt u. mit der von Ameri. Expr. Co. angegebenen Signatur: „AM.X 1000, 1001 etc., Country of Origin-Germany, Ann Arbor, Mich. U.S.A” versehen u. demnächst an die Fa. Emil Ipsen Sped. Bremen Bahnhofstr. 32 rasch abgesandt. Die Frachtkosten sollen (nach dem Briefe der Amer. Expr. Co. an die Fa. Steffelin Ref. E. 935) „zu Lasten der Amer. Expr. Co“ gehen. Wie ist das Letztere also. wohl die Rechnung so früh erhalten, dass ich Sie noch vor dem 30 Sept. bezahlen kann. Und an wen? Eben war unser Ferngespräch u. ich erwarte die Rechnung rechtzeitig, ebenso ev. für Zahnarzt etc. zur direkten Bezahlung vor 30 Sept.
Bei ev. teleph. Anruf der Fa. Steffelin falls Ihr ev. solchen nötig habt, kann wohl am besten deren Herr Riehle oder Längin, über das hiesige Gepäck u seine Expedierung Auskunft geben. Es wird aber wohl nicht nötig sein.
Westpfahl, Herrman, Eggert sollen Dir (durch Bielefeld) noch in einer Woche zugehen. Ich bezahle sie hier.

Dear Max,
This afternoon, the packer Mr. Bauer from the Steffelin Company, on behalf of the American Express Company, packed your belongings in 5 containers. The books are in 2 large boxes and in a slightly smaller one that still has some laundry on top. In addition, 1 container has porcelain and silver (not the box) and 1 suitcase contains bedding. The 5 containers will be picked up tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22nd, in the morning by Steffelin and marked with the American Express Company label: "AM.X 1000, 1001 etc., Country of Origin-Germany, Ann Arbor, Mich. U.S.A.” It will then be quickly sent by the Emil Ipsen Shipping Company in Bremen at Bahnhofstrasse 32. The freight costs should “be borne by the American Express Company” (according to the letter from the American Express Company to the Steffelin Company, Reference E.935). What is the status of the latter? Will you or I pay for the freight shopping costs, and to where? I would then

like to receive the bill as early as possible, so that I can pay it before September 30th. Who will be paid? The same applies to our long distance phone call and the dentist etc. I expect the bill to be on time and to pay directly before September 30th.
In the event of a telephone call from the Steffelin Company, if you would need one, their employees Mr. Riehle or Mr. Längin, can best provide information about the luggage here and its dispatch. However, it probably won't be necessary.
The Westphal, Herrmann, and Eggert volumes should reach you in a week (through Bielfeld). I will pay for them here.
