George Mitchell (1864-), a Welsh metallurgist who, after a career in various smelting and refining plants in the United States, embarked upon a mining venture in Mexico in 1899. Mitchell initially acquired the famous Cananea Mines in the state of Sonora. He devoted himself almost exclusively to the Cananea district until 1903, when he took charge of the Mitchell Mining Co., which owned valuable timber and mining property in the state of Guerrero.
