While there, he modified the Beckman DU Spectrophotometer design, producing the DK Spectrophotometer (expanding the range into near-infrared) and the DKU, which combined both infrared and ultraviolet features. He also developed a glucose analyzer for Beckman, which was handed off to and completed by James C. Sternberg in 1970.
