Percy Lavon Julian (1899-1975) commemorative stamp sheet from the US Postal Service Black Heritage series. Julian first synthesized the drug physostigmine. He pioneered the synthesis of important medicinal compounds from abundant plant sources, making them more affordable to mass-produce.
