Letter written by Phoebe Waterman Haas (1882–1967) as she traveled by ship to the Argentine National Observatory in Córdoba, Argentina, where she had been appointed as an assistant astronomer. During the voyage to Buenos Aires, she met chemist Otto Haas (1857–1960), whom she married in February 1914.

One of the first American women to earn a doctorate in astronomy, Phoebe Waterman Haas received her Ph.D. in 1913 from the University of California, Berkeley.
