Portrait of Samuel Schmucker Sadtler (1873-1954), graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and son of charter member and first President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Samuel Phillip Sadtler (1847-1923). In 1901, Sadtler and his father co-founded the Philadelphia chemical consulting firm Samuel P. Sadtler & Son. Samuel Schmucker Sadtler was also a founding member of the Chemists' Club of New York and one of the first editors of Chemical Abstracts, as well as the author of Chemistry of Familiar Things.
