Georg Bredig (1868-1944) studied physical chemistry at the University of Leipzig directly under Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932). After receiving his doctorate, Bredig returned to Leipzig as Ostwald's assistant in 1895. There, Bredig researched colloids and developed "Bredig’s arc method," which became the preferred chemical method of creating metallic solutions. Bredig would work at the University of Leipzig until 1901 when he became an associate professor at the University of Heidelberg.
