Lieber Max-Albert!
Hoffentlich geht es Dir gut u. hast Du mehr Klarheit in das, was zu thun u. möglich ist, erhalten. Du kannst Dir denken, das ich mir auch den Kopf darüber zerbreche. Einstweilen sende ich Dir vertraulich beiliegendes Exemplar eines Merkblattes der Alltreu vom Aug. 38 zu Deiner Information. Vielleicht hast Du auch schon von der Alttreu zu diesem Zwecke ein Exemplar erhalten, dann erbitte ich es bald zurück. Andernfalls nimm davon in Ruhe Kenntnis, soweit es Dich angeht. Privatim u. vertraulich kannst Du Dir daraus für eigenen Gebrauch natürlich das Nötige notieren. Wichtig sind die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten u. die Tatsache, dass Du ev. auch die Aufstellung des Vermögens Deiner Eltern also des Meinigen brauchst, falls Du Anträge an die Divisenstelle richtest. Ich habe Dir daher ausser einer Aufstellung Deines derzeitigen Vermögens auch eine solche

über mein Vermögen beigelegt u. (vertraulich nur fuer Dich) auch eine Aufstellung des Vermögens Deiner Schwester, weil diese bereit ist, Alles zu Deinen Gunsten Nötige u. Mögliche zu thun, wie auch ich bereit bin, Dir mit Rücksicht auf Ziffer A 2) meiner „Entwürfe“ auf dem beiliegenden Zettel Dir Deinen Erbrecht (ca 10 000 R.M.) schon jetzt aus meinem noch übrigen Vermögen auszuzahlen. Das wäre aber wohl unpraktisch u. nur im äußersten Notfalle tunlich, wenn überhaupt empfehlenswert.
V. will Dir auch bald über diese Sachen schreiben, sie sich aber vorher noch gründlich überlegen. Es wäre natürlich für uns von Interesse was Dir Alttreu bisher geraten hat.
Hoffentlich bist Du gesund u. guten Mutes. Wegen der Affidavit lege ich Dir eine Postkarte von Frau Marx bei. – Hast Du an Fajans oder Erich* gekabelt?
Ich werde hier von Neumann u. dem Augenarzt behandelt. Die Schmerzen sind zurückgegangen. Ich bekomme Schlafmittel u. werde mit Kurzwellen (^ = 6m) täglich ca 15-20 Minuten bestrahlt. Das Auge ist immer völlig intakt einschl. des Nervus opticus, aber wegen peripherer Muskellähmung noch nicht zu brauchen. Die Zeit der Heilung kann lange dauern, Heilung aber in Aussicht sein. –
Es grüsst Dich herzlich von uns allen.

Dear Max-Albert,
I hope you are doing well and have gained more clarity about what to do and what is possible. You can imagine that I’m scratching my head about this too. In the meantime, I am sending you a confidential copy of an Alttreu leaflet dated August 1938 for your information. Perhaps you have already received a copy from Alttreu for this purpose. If so, I would ask that you return it soon. Otherwise, just take note of the information that concerns you. Of course, you can consider what is necessary privately and confidentially for your own use. The various options are important, and the fact that you may also need a list of your parents' assets, i.e., mine, especially if you submit applications to the tax office. Therefore, in addition to a list of your current assets,

I have also enclosed a list of my assets, as well as a list of your sister’s assets (confidential and only for you), because she is willing to do everything that is necessary and possible to help you. I am also prepared to give you your inheritance (approx. 10,000 R.M.) from my remaining assets regarding number A 2) of my “drafts” on the enclosed note. However, that would probably be impractical and only advisable in extreme emergencies, if at all.
Viktor also wants to write to you soon about these things, but first think through them carefully. It would of course interest us what Alttreu has advised you to do thus far.
I hope you are healthy and in good spirits. With regards to the affidavit, I am enclosing a postcard from Mrs. Marx. Did you send a telegram to Fajans or Erich*?
Neumann and the ophthalmologist are treating me here. The pain has subsided. I receive sleeping pills and have daily radiation treatments (^ = 6m) for about 15-20 minutes. The eye is still completely intact, including the optic nerve, but cannot yet be used due to peripheral muscle paralysis. It will take a long time to heal, but it is in sight.
