<dc:description>This work, titled Red Fuse is at the intersection of fine art and fireworks. It was made by the contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang, best known for his large-scale explosion events that use pyrotechnics as an artistic medium. Red Fuse is a smaller-scale work that uses his signature technique of igniting explosives to create abstract forms on paper.

To create this piece, Cai laid handmade hemp paper on the ground, applied gunpowder and a fuse to its surface, then a chipboard panel weighted with rocks on top before igniting the fuse. The resulting marks and residues left over from the explosion become the artwork itself, capturing the ephemeral nature of fireworks while exploring themes of creation, destruction, and unpredictability.
